Projects
Flinders / Shoreham Backlog Sewerage Scheme
Project Overview
Project Type: Sewer Backlog
Number of Stages: 2
Scheduled Start: Early February 2006
Scheduled Completion: 2009
Flinders, Shoreham and Point Lea are unsewered coastal towns located in close proximity to each other on the western shore of Western Port. The towns comprise a total of some 1300 properties (Flinders 800, Shoreham 450 and Point Leo 50) with a mix of permanent and holiday homeowners.
Included in the towns are a number of caravan parks, large holiday camps, commercial areas and a golf course.
Extensive community consultation has now been completed with all property owners in the townships of Flinders, Shoreham and Point Leo as well as local interest groups and other key stakeholders.
The community consultation process determined strong support for:
- a reticulation option with the townships to address the pollution and health issue
- the use of the existing sewerage treatment facility Somers to avoid impacts of establishment of a local treatment plant
- full reuse of treated effluent to avoid any increase in the discharge to an ocean outfall.
